Utopia
I've never really known the word Utopia. When I researched it I imagined a society based upon architecture and streamlined buildings. After talking to other people, I found that they see Utopia as being in balance with nature and living in a society without money or time.
I came to the conclusion that people have very different views of Utopia.
I decided to use a digital program Adobe photoshop and a drawing tablet to create the project. I began by only drawing the nature version of Utopia. But I kept going back to the thought that people had very different ways of imagining Utopia. I decided to delete my original drawing and came up with the idea of having two people stand back to back while looking at their own version of Utopia.
I imagined the guy on the left to be a business person who views a Futuristic World, full of skyscrapers and flying cars. A world almost as a sci-fi movie, where everyone has an unlimited amount of money, no worries, and where you live with different hierarchies almost like in the movie Divergent.
The girl on the right views her Utopia as a very peaceful society where nature and humanity live in peace. Buildings are made of natural materials, and global problems, such as global warming and pollution are non-existent. Money isn't exchanged but people gather things and trade with each other, almost as a hunter-gatherer community.
Creating this project gave me a broader vision of what I would like to practice in the future. I would like to improve on my backgrounds such as architecture, scenery and perspectives. I can say that this project gave me more confidence in digital art, especially since I've mostly been drawing traditionally with standard art tools.
Thank you for taking your time to view my project. I'm very exited to hear from you.
Sincerely, Anja Heath.
